Ilvo Fontana, crafter of precision engineering instruments, received a prestigious commission from the Italian Navy: to design and build a new model of watch for its Navy pilots. This challenge meant satisfying the high quality standards of the Navy and respecting very precise technical specifications, but above all guaranteeing maximum reliability and readability in any light and weather conditions. However, due to circumstances at the time, the project did not materialize. In 2000, Ivo’s grandson Italo Fontana came across these valuable designs, which were to become the source of his inspiration for the creation of the first U-Boat watch and for his motto: A New Dimension in Time. For seven years, Italo Fontana worked meticulously on watches with a completely new look, based on handcrafted pieces characterized by their strong personality and readability in all weather conditions, and boasting uniquely bold and distinctive design characteristics.
